In Tune with LA Laura Paris: A Symphony of Styles and Stories

In Tune with LA Laura Paris: A Symphony of Styles and Stories

Introduction: To start, please introduce yourself and tell us about your journey as a music artist. How did you get started in the music industry, and what inspires your musical passion?

My name is LA Laura Paris, and I’m a singer, songwriter, composer, musician, producer, dancer, and award-winning director. My music journey began as soon as my feet hit the ground. As a child, I just loved dancing, singing, and performing, everything that could make me express myself. At the age of five, I started violin and music lessons, then I discovered the piano and fell in love with the instrument. I studied classical pieces like Bach, Mozart, but I’ve always been more of a Romantic, loving Chopin and Yann Tiersen's soundtracks. As a teen, I began composing my own pop acoustic songs on the piano. I became involved in the electronic scene by collaborating and learning from French Touch DJs in Paris.

It was a fun time. I spent my days at FG Radio, meeting those amazing producers and producing my own music. But I always felt a connection with Los Angeles, before even visiting. So, when my first music video, which I directed, won an award at La Jolla International Fashion Film Festival, I took the opportunity to live my dream and explore the beauty and craziness of Los Angeles. I had the chance to record my songs in studios, study Music Business and meet a bunch of artists to slowly build my glittering team.

Musical Style: How would you describe your unique musical style, and what themes or emotions do you often explore in your songs?

I have a wide range of music styles, and I haven’t shared everything yet. I’ve mostly been releasing Pop Electro songs that reflect having fun, self-empowerment, and love. On the other side, I create pop acoustic ballads where I reflect more melancholic, emotional feelings like breakups. And then, I create Pop Rock music that reflects my revolutionary empowerment attitude. Some people have said to me I shouldn't have that many styles of music, but I think it actually reflects all our different emotions in life. Sometimes you want to have fun, sometimes you are sad, sometimes you are angry and want to let it out.

Inspirations: Who are some of the musicians or artists who have significantly influenced your music and contributed to your creative vision?

There are so many! As a kid, I used to wake up at 6 am to watch Daft Punk, Britney Spears, Gwen Stefani, and Martin Solveig's music videos on MTV. I was just fascinated by their music and visuals. Then, Lady Gaga helped me believe in myself through high school. I’ve also had a big respect for artists such as David Bowie, Elton John, Michel Polnareff, Grace Jones, Joan Jett, and also Betty Davis who empowered women to be themselves regardless of society.

Songwriting Process: Can you share insights into your songwriting process? Where do you find inspiration, and what subjects or stories do you enjoy exploring in your lyrics?

Inspiration comes really randomly. Sometimes I'll have an idea of a specific subject, but mostly the lyrics and melody just all come together. I find inspiration in my life experiences and relationships. It's actually very therapeutic to write songs, it’s sometimes way easier than saying what you want to say to someone.

I'm going straight to the point, no bulls***. I think if you want to be true, you have to be yourself and nobody else!

Career Highlights: Looking back on your music career, what are some of the most memorable moments or achievements that stand out to you?

Something that I will always remember is when my first music videos, "I’m Leaving Right Away" and "Kissing Boys," were nominated at the La Jolla International Fashion Film Festival. It was so cool to see all this hard work and those beautiful people who believed in my vision on the big screen. I could say to myself “I made it!!” And winning the award and performing on the red carpet was just a huge warm welcome for my journey in the US.

Visual Artistry: Visual elements are important in the music industry. How do you approach the visual aspects of your music, including music videos and album artwork?

Studying Visual Arts and living in Paris, as well as having a dad who was passionate about art and a mom who was a fashion model, I’ve always been immersed in fashion aesthetics and fashion culture. For me, the perfection of visuals are crucial not only in fashion but also in dance. Growing up, I learned classical, jazz, tap, hip-hop, and Bollywood dance. Visually, the grace of Bollywood mudras (hand gestures) inspired me to incorporate American Sign Language into my choreography. Why? Because I want my music to be more accessible, and I’ve always been fascinated when I see people communicating with ASL.

Artistic Growth: How do you perceive your artistic growth and evolution since your early work, and what creative directions do you envision for your music in the future?

I would say my vision of who I am is becoming sharper than it was a few years ago back in Paris, especially after experiencing Los Angeles where I can truly be myself, dress as I want, and feel accepted. My team has also evolved. It’s beautiful to see people around me, supporting and believing in my vision. I definitely envision my glitter team growing with more dancers, more live performances, and eccentric fashion music videos. And for sure, my debut album will be releasing after this summer.

Message to Fans: Lastly, is there a message, philosophy, or piece of advice you'd like to convey to your fans and to aspiring musicians who admire your work.

Believe in who you are and don’t let anybody tell you that you can’t make it. Listen deeply to your heart and don’t let your sparkle fade. We only have one life, and this life is meant to live it the way you want. Even in the darkest moments, stay positive, and positive things will come back to you.
