Yaåster: Crafting Psychedelic Pop Rock with Heart

Introduction:

Meet Arnaud Goetgheluck, the artist and music producer known as Yaåster. Arnaud released his debut self-produced EP, "Out Of My Zone," on May 12th, 2023. His musical journey began at the age of 11 when he started playing the guitar, and his true passion for music production ignited at 16 when he experimented with computer-based music production. He honed his skills by studying jazz guitar for three years at the American School of Modern Music in Paris, along with taking singing and guitar classes at ATLA, another music school in the city.

Artistic Identity:

Yaåster's stage name has a captivating story behind it. It was inspired by a memorable encounter with a husky when Arnaud was just 9 years old. This husky, named Yaåster, left a lasting impression on him. Arnaud felt a deep connection with the dog, sensing its strength, freedom, and unique spirit. This connection stayed with him throughout his life and became a part of his own personality. It's a name that embodies the beauty, endurance, and strength of the husky, a symbol of the artist's own musical journey.

Musical Style:

Yaåster's music can be described as Psychedelic Pop Rock. His songs feature catchy melodies, punctuated by bursts of rock guitar solos, and are enriched with atmospheric elements like synthesizers. He often employs effects such as echo, reverb, phaser, and chorus to create a sense of space and depth in his music. His lyrics explore a wide range of emotions, from depression and anxiety to love and hope, crafting stories that resonate with his listeners.

Inspirations:

Kevin Parker from Tame Impala stands out as a significant influence on Yaåster. His music and production skills have inspired Arnaud's own musical journey. He also draws inspiration from legendary bands like Pink Floyd, Arctic Monkeys, and Temples, infusing his work with elements from these iconic artists.

Songwriting Process:

Yaåster's songwriting process is diverse. Sometimes, it begins with a few guitar or piano chords he loves. However, more often, he starts by recording and layering various musical ideas, creating a foundation that evolves into a complete song. He lets the music guide him to find the perfect vocal melodies that fit the emotions and themes he wants to convey.

Career Highlights:

Arnaud's proudest achievement is self-producing his debut EP, "Out Of My Zone." This two-year journey allowed him to define his musical identity, face challenges, and experience the full spectrum of emotions that come with creating art. Additionally, his music has gained recognition on French television and radio, showcasing his growing presence in the industry.

Visual Artistry:

Visual elements play a crucial role in Yaåster's music. His approach to music videos and album artwork is intuitive, combining elements that resonate with his personal style. He incorporates vintage, pirate, and 70s-inspired aesthetics, along with his love for antiques and old-fashioned letter writing. The artwork for "Out Of My Zone" and "Otherside" features a character called Têto, representing the consciousness being freed from the ego—a symbol of letting go of old patterns.

Message to Fans:

Yaåster's message to fans and aspiring musicians is rooted in following your heart. He believes that listening to your heart and paying attention to how experiences make you feel can lead to incredible personal growth and the creation of meaningful art. Art, to Yaåster, is not just a medium for expression but a powerful way to connect with your true self. His philosophy emphasizes the importance of daily practice, self-awareness, and embracing the unexpected beauty of life.
